(LGBTQ) Pride Month is celebrated in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, which was a milestone event for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. In honor of Pride Month, festivities and other activities occur globally to provide opportunities to reflect, celebrate, and increase awareness.
This collection includes ebooks, journals, and databases on adult and pediatric LGBTQ+ health, including the Archives of Sexuality & Gender database, which contains a robust and significant collection of primary sources for the historical study of sex, sexuality, and gender.
You can also explore LGBTQ+ history at Stanford through Stanford Libraries and Lane Library’s Medical History Center. Stanford Libraries’ Queer @ Stanford exhibit showcases the history of queer students at Stanford University. Similarly, the Medical History Center holds materials related to LGBTQ+ history at Stanford Medicine – such as Dr. Donald Laub opening one of the first clinics in the US to provide gender confirmation surgery for transgender people in the US. The Medical History Center can also assist researchers with broader questions in the history of LGBTQ+ medicine, including The AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP) and other instances in which LGBTQ+ activists used community organizing to pioneer new forms of health care and public health policy.
