Meet Your Lane Library Staff: Daniel Eller
Every month, we are spotlighting an amazing member of our library staff. This month meet Daniel Eller, our new Research Communications Librarian.
What do you do at the library?
I support research visibility and impact by guiding faculty and students in publication strategies, data visualization, research impact modeling, open access, copyright, and data sharing. I also provide expertise on research metrics using emerging technologies, AI, and ensure compliance with ethical and funding requirements, while offering instruction on best practices in scholarly communication and library instruction.
What did you do before coming to Lane Library?
I was a librarian and assistant professor at a university in Oklahoma…But, before that I was an executive chef. So, I’ve had two very different occupations. I’m much happier as an academic 🙂
What are you most excited about in your new role?
I love working on such a collaborative team and getting to serve the amazing researchers we have here at Stanford.
How long have you worked at Lane?
I have been here for two months.
What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I go on lots of walks, read, and try to write.
Do you prefer . . .
Coffee or tea?
Coffee in the morning but I do love tea in the evening.
Cats or dogs?
Dogs, but I’m so allergic to cats that I never had a chance to really get close enough to love them. 😀
Candy or cake?
Hmmmmm. Cake.
Salty or sweet?
Salty all the way…That is why I became an executive chef and not a pastry chef.
Print or digital books?
Print all the way…but digital is way more convenient for academic reading.
Nonfiction or fiction?
Nonfiction. Especially autobiographies about comedians.
Summer or winter?
Summer…but there is something so cozy about snowfall during Christmas.
