Join Us in Celebrating Open Access Week 2024: Community Over Commercialization
As we celebrate Open Access Week 2024 from October 21-27, it’s a perfect time to reflect on the importance of open scholarship that serves the best interests of the public and the academic community. At Lane Medical Library, we are dedicated to supporting the medical and research community in embracing the principles of open access to ensure that vital research is accessible to everyone, regardless of their institutional affiliation or financial resources. Our Understanding Open Access Library Guide is the perfect place to begin to learn about OA, and Stanford University’s and the National Institute of Health’s OA policies.
Open Access Resources
Lane Medical Library offers many open-access tools and resources to help you navigate this evolving landscape. Here are some essential resources available to you:
Dryad: Dryad is an open-access data repository that allows researchers to publish and share their datasets with the global community. Dryad is particularly valuable for medical and clinical researchers who want to ensure their non-PHI data is freely available for reanalysis and further discovery.
Protocol.io: This platform is designed to share research methods and protocols openly. It enables researchers to publish and peer-review detailed protocols, ensuring that methods are reproducible and accessible to the scientific community.
Unpaywall: Unpaywall is a browser extension that locates legal, open-access versions of journal articles. If you’re searching for an article behind a paywall, Unpaywall often finds a free, accessible version.
Sherpa Romeo: This tool provides detailed information on publishers’ open access policies, helping you understand what rights you retain as an author and whether you can self-archive your research.
Stanford Digital Repository (SDR): Operated by Stanford University Libraries, the SDR is an open repository for scholarly research and data produced by Stanford affiliates. It provides long-term preservation and access to academic works, including research papers, theses, and datasets.
