All Abuzz About FOLIO

Update: FOLIO is live! Our week-long migration by all campus libraries was successful!

Big changes are coming soon for Lane Library staff and their behind-the-scenes workflows. As a result, our users may experience temporary disruptions to our services and website between now and September.

Here’s what’s changing: Lane Library and Stanford University Libraries are migrating to a shared, open-source, community-owned library services platform called FOLIO (symbolized by a bee). We have worked hard for 18 months to prepare for this historic technological move.

The migration to FOLIO impacts every aspect of library services and behind-the-scenes functionality, from ordering digital/print journals and books to discovering them on our website and, ultimately, checking them out. Between June 28 and August 28, these processes will experience temporary disruptions.

Important Dates

June 28, 2023

The library will not be able to purchase new books, journals, or other resources between June 28 and Aug 28, 2023.

Here’s what it means for you:

  • There may be delays for Suggestion-For-Purchase requests submitted after June 28.
  • If you urgently need a resource between now and August 15, please contact LaneAskUs@stanford.edu.
  • There will be no disruptions to our DocXpress Document Delivery service.

August 16, 2023

Our current online catalog interface comes down in preparation for the final step in our migration.

Screenshot of the Lane Medical Library catalog with basic search, advanced search, and course reserves options. The current tab selected is the basic search tab, where you can enter your search term, and narrow down the results using keyword phrase, related title browse, call number browse, date browse, or command search with relevance. You can also add a quick search limit. At the bottom, the button options are to adjust the number of records shown per page, the search button and the reset button.

Here’s what it means for you:

You can:

  • Connect to our digital resources using Lane Search.
  • Find the real-time availability of our print resources through Lane Search.

You cannot:

  • Place holds/requests for print materials.
  • Access your Lane Library user accounts.

August 21-27 – Dark Week

Library staff will not have access to the current or new system during Dark Week, and automated notifications, like overdue reminders, will not be sent to library patrons.

Here’s what it means for you:

You can:

  • Check out printed resources and library equipment, such as chargers and HDMI cables.
  • Find digital resources and print materials in Lane Search.

You cannot:

  • Find real-time availability for print resources.
  • Place holds/requests on print resources.

August 28 – FOLIO is Live!

FOLIO will be our new library services platform at 8 AM.

Here’s what it means for you:

You can:

  • Find real-time availability of print resources in Lane Search.
  • Place holds/requests on print items.
  • Access MyLibrary Account to view and manage checked-out materials and pay fines.

We will update our users on our migration to FOLIO through future blog posts.
