SPORTDiscus: A specialized database of sports-related information

SPORTDiscus is a comprehensive bibliographic database for sports, physical fitness, exercise science, and sports medicine research, provided by the Canadian Sports Information Resource Center SIRC and licensed for Stanford University by Lane Medical Library. It includes more than 1.7 million records, including journals, books, and dissertations.

It covers a range of topics, including sports medicine, physical therapy, kinesiology, coaching, exercise physiology, nutrition, and the sociology of sport.

The database is international in scope and provides access to the full-text of much of its content. The database contains material not found in other databases. SPORTDiscus includes content from trade journals and magazines, not just academic journals. It has historical content going back to 1800.

If your question falls within the broad realm of sports, using this smaller, specialized database will save time and broaden your results compared to searching the 40 million articles in PubMed. Please reach out to Lane Library for assistance with your literature search or database recommendations.
