It’s National Library Week!
National Library Week is an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening our communities.
The theme for this year is Drawn to the Library – a celebration of all the things that draw you to the library! From students and residents visiting the library website to access exam prep materials to postdocs dropping by to connect their laptop to a monitor with an HDMI cable, to hospital staff searching for a quiet place to eat lunch in our courtyard, to busy researchers meeting with our reference and instruction librarians for help with literature searches, Lane Library has something for all of our Stanford Medicine community!
In honor of this year’s theme, we’re highlighting the intersection of art and medicine.
Here’s how you can celebrate:
- Visit the library during the month of April to check out one of the titles in our “Art & Medicine” book display
- Check out some digital titles in graphic medicine highlighted below
- Want to get creative and show us what draws you to Lane Library? Create your own “What’s the Draw?” art that shows how Lane helps you thrive at Stanford Medicine and share it with Lane Library on social media!
Drawn to Graphic Medicine
Browse some of the graphic medicine ebooks available through Stanford Libraries (please note that many of these titles require a SUNet ID for access).
Graphic medicine refers to comics that are related to some aspect of healthcare. They include graphic memoirs of illness, educational comics for students and patients, and comics about healthcare workers and topics. These materials can help build empathy, community, and connection. For more information on graphic medicine, we recommend exploring Dr. Iam Williams’ (who coined the term) graphic medicine website and USC Libraries Graphic Medicine guide.
