Congratulations to the 2023 Stanford Highly Cited Researchers!
Lane Medical Library would like to congratulate the 126 Stanford-affiliated researchers included in the Clarivate 2023 Highly Cited Researchers list!
What does it mean to be named a Highly Cited Researcher?
A Highly Cited Researcher is an individual who has demonstrated significant and broad influence in their field(s) of research.
Each year, Clarivate identifies researchers with multiple Highly Cited Papers™, which rank in the top 1% by citations in Web of Science for their field of study and publication year. Papers published between 2012 and 2022 were analyzed to establish the list of this year’s highly cited researchers. To be named in the list, researchers then pass a qualitative analysis and review by an expert panel. According to Clarivate, “of the world’s population of scientists and social scientists, Highly Cited Researchers are 1 in 1,000.”
This year, Stanford was ranked third globally for the number of highly cited researchers per organization, topped only by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Harvard University.
Congratulations to our 126 awardees! You can filter the list linked above by award category to view researchers by field. Stanford researchers are represented in over twenty different award categories including clinical medicine, immunology, psychiatry, and more!

I’ve searched and searched to fid this list and also learn the methodology used; but I cannot find a link to the list itself.
Hello Donald, the list is linked in the blog post above. You can find it at https://clarivate.com/highly-cited-researchers/. I also recommend exploring their Evaluation & Selection page to learn more about the methodology used for generating the list: https://clarivate.com/highly-cited-researchers/evaluation-and-selection/.
