Black History Month 1 feb to 1 mar with yellow red and green patterned blocks

Celebrate Black History Month

Lane Library celebrates Black History Month this February by showcasing our resources and services that support health equity and diversity. We invite the Stanford Medicine community to visit the library (in-person or online) to explore our spaces and browse our collections.

Visit the D-CORE Space

Lane Library is home to the Diversity Center of Representation and Empowerment (D-CORE), a space open to any member of the Stanford Medicine community interested in issues of inclusion, diversity, and health equity. The D-CORE space can be used for meetings, casual conversations, and as a place to relax and study. Read more about the space’s functionality in the D-CORE Usage Policy Guide and consider reserving it for your next meeting.

Explore our MultiCultural Health Guide

Lane Library’s Multicultural Health Guide offers a wealth of resources on topics including medical racism, antiracism, health disparities, and cultural competency. Resources from Lane Library, Stanford Libraries, and government sources are included in this guide, along with links to books, journals, and websites that provide diverse perspectives and information to support your learning.

Visit our Sam McDonald: A Stanford Pioneer Exhibit

Emanuel Bruce “Sam” McDonald (1884-1957) made significant contributions to Stanford University and the School of Medicine at a time when Stanford Medicine’s administrators did not admit Black students or hire Black faculty. Our exhibit on Sam McDonald is now up in the Lane Library. Explore it in person or discover more through our online exhibit.
